Bass and Double Bass lessons for all levels and genres

Bass is the key instrument for every band or ensemble since it has the function of being a bridge between rhythm and harmony. The range of styles that the Bass can cover is basically limitless; from a prominent position like in funk and fusion to the background of pop and rock music the versatility of the instrument gives you the unique possibility to explore any genre you're into.

My lessons will follow a program tailored to you and your goals.
Discover this amazing instrument by learning the songs you love or diving deep into all the important skills that make a great session bass player.
With my help you can also learn music theory, reading scores, jazz harmony and improvising.
From the very first lesson, you will be able to jam with other people:)

"It's easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself." J. S. Bach

    Présentation

I'm a bass and double bass player from Palermo, Sicily. In 2017 I moved to Tilburg, Netherlands, in search of bigger opportunities. I'm studying bass at Fontys Academy of Music and Performing Arts where I'm able to cultivate my love for all kinds of Arts and I'm in a position to exchange ideas and collaborate with many talented artists.
I love to play in large ensembles, Big Bands, and Orchestras. Professional and versatile.

    Education

I studied Electric Bass at Vincenzo Bellini Conservatory in Palermo and Double Bass at Brass jazz club.
I studied Electric Bass at AMPA Conservatory Tilburg where I graduated in jazz Double Bass.

    Expérience / Qualifications

I approached the instrument in my early adolescence by playing in a few blues rock bands in my hometown. In my last years of high school, I got closer to jazz and started studying bass guitar at the conservatory V.Bellini of Palermo and at the same time double bass at the Brass group. There I started to play with a few jazz ensembles and simultaneously with a grunge band. In 2017 I moved to Tilburg, Netherlands, in order to continue my studies in jazz bass guitar at AMPA. In there I played in many jazz venues and events and had the opportunity to work with many international artists to create experimental performances.
In 2019 I changed my major to jazz double bass and graduated in 2022.
Since then I played and recorded with some of the best jazz musicians in Palermo.

Learn the bass differently and intuitively
This course is above all there to make you want to play bass, let it be fun! It will be based on the practice of the instrument, on the understanding and the role of the bass. The theory will be based on the progress of the practice. Step by step, practice and theory will thus be complementary, and will necessarily be useful! Have you always dreamed of being able to play bass? it's time to get started! Let the magic of music take hold of you and become the accomplished bassist you always wanted to be! Possibility of offering this course to one of your loved ones, a very appreciated gift for people who would like to embark on a musical adventure!

    John
Professional jazz musician teaching jazz, blues, funk, R&B, pop, rock, latin and classical piano.
I teach online via Zoom, using software which allows you to see the exact keys I'm playing on my keyboard. My teaching method is to focus on whatever type of music the student loves most, and to build from there. I believe that many people give up their dream of playing an instrument simply because they aren't inspired enough, so my goal is to instill a love for music, whatever that means personally for each individual student. Everyone learns differently and has their own pace and rhythm. I have some students who like to have a regular weekly or biweekly lesson, and others who just get in touch once in a while when they have digested the previous lesson and feel ready to build on it. Whatever the case, I am very flexible and we can figure out what works best for you. A bit about me: Originally honing my skills on the British jazz scene and holding residencies in restaurants and bars around the country, I then went on to tour the world playing on cruise ships, hotels and festivals. I returned to London to complete my master's in jazz piano at the Guildhall School of Music, and during this time performed regularly at Ronnie Scotts, The Vortex and many other venues across the UK. I then spent two years in South America learning about salsa and Cuban music. I now mainly work as a transcriber, writing sheet music for all instruments including full Big Band scores. I have also worked extensively in musical theatre, most recently as musical director for 'Jersey Boys', and on the first US national tour of 'Summer: the Donna Summer Musical'. The video shown below is from my stint playing and directing 'After Midnight', a show set to the music of the Duke Ellington Big Band.

CLASSICAL, JAZZ/ MODERN PIANO AND RHYTHM COMPLEXITY
The older I get, the more I love. Especially during these times of immense ugliness and hate, wars and conflict, music- that's always been all about love - is the home I keep returning to. To me, mentoring someone is all about sharing the love for the instrument, thirst about the material, desire to explore new musical paths and respect for whatever happens whilst playing. Not only we will explore technical paths and understand rhythm under a totally different light but also communicate through improvisation and modal principles. My goal is for you to love the instrument a bit more, music a bit more and as Antoine de Saint-Exupéry said "Perhaps love is the process of my leading you gently back to yourself". So let's explore together the painstakingly beautiful process of music through the inner child.

Private guitar and bass lessons, musical initiation and accompaniment/coaching for musical projects
The program of my lessons can be agreed and structured with you from the 1st lesson but it is quite possible to have a much more spontaneous approach according to your objectives. I can teach you essential music theory basics in the form of different practical exercises - Introduce you to different techniques related to your instrument or help you improve them according to your difficulties - Guide you in learning pieces of different styles (Pop, Rock, Metal, Funk, Reggae...) And more. I also offer my services for coaching in launching musical projects. Who am I ? Growing up in a musical family, I started music with the classical piano at the age of 6 and played it for 10 years. It was at the age of 13 that I discovered the bass and decided to delve deeper into the subject by starting private lessons and this instrument has never left me since. In the meantime, I also took guitar lessons in parallel for two years and continued as an autodidact. I joined various Rock and Metal bands during my adolescence and decided to join the Neuchâtel Conservatory of Music in the jazz bass section at the age of 16 and studied there for 3 years. It was in 2019 that I had the chance and the opportunity to join the professional band Triumph Of Death (Hellhammer performed by Tom G. Warrior's Triumph Of Death) which performs internationally. Currently, I still play in this group as well as in two other musical groups. In 2020, the desire to teach music by giving private lessons was born and so I began this activity in Switzerland, to continue it in Belgium two years later. Being back in Switzerland in 2024 permanently, I wish to resume private lessons in person in the canton of Jura, as well as online* for students living outside the canton. *Online lessons take place on Google Teams and I already have several students living abroad. For more information, do not hesitate to contact me on this platform and I will be happy to answer you!

Piano lessons - 🧠👂 Wanna learn some music theory?
👂 My motto for teaching music: Learn with your ear, before understanding it with your brain. Music can be explained entirely from a theoretical point of view 🤯. But I'm convinced that the best approach is to feel and sing the music 🎤💖, before understanding and interpreting it theoretically. I teach music theory intuitively 💫. More than just a way of reading sheet music, I can show you how to deconstruct a piece of music in any genre, how to interpret chords, and how to improvise simply and effectively. ♯♭♮ About me: • playing the piano for >30 years 🎹 • studied classical music & jazz for 13 years in music schools 🧑🏻‍🏫 • played in a variety of bands, including classical music, jazz, blues, Latin music, rock, pop, cabaret, flamenco and electronic music • languages: 🇬🇧🇩🇪🇫🇷🇪🇸🇮🇹🇵🇹 👂 My motto for music lessons: Learn with your ear before you understand it with your head. Singing/solubility/music theory/harmony/ear training: by master student of jazz singing
I am a jazz singing student in France, where I stayed after a year of Erasmus. I would like to teach my students the art of singing. It should be fun, with the accompanying technology! Music theory and the more theoretical aspects of music are certainly also possible!

Learn Saxophone Technique through Improvisation - Any Level Welcome.
Any level welcome in this class. Learning songs is the beginning of the adventure, learning to play music with freedom is the lifelong journey. Improvisation does not mean we forget about technique! So, learn some saxophone, some jazz skills, and music theory in a tried-and-tested way developed over my many years of teaching. I am as passionate about improvisation as the saxophone itself, the two go together beautifully. I am Julia, a professional saxophonist originally from Montreal, Canada. I live in the Netherlands for 4 years and have a Master's degree in Music. I compose, engineer and perform music. I also love to teach, I have experiences with ages 9 to 90. The main idea of my teaching philosophy is to get the sound in your head out into the air. "Guided Fearless Music-Making" is my motto!
