Met een master's degree in jazz compositie gehaald (Rotterdam) ontwerpt Alex de partituren zelf. Hij maakt toegankelijke arrangementen van stukken of liedjes. Ook de methode en de oefeningen voor gitaartechniek komen uit eigen hand. De partituren zijn geschreven met een hybride notatie (muzieknotatie en tabnotatie), waarbij alle benodigde informatie over de rechter- en linkerhand wordt verstrekt. Na overeenstemming te hebben bereikt over de te werken stukken of liedjes, krijgt de leerling de desbetreffende partituur. In de les speelt de leraar het live voor de leerling, zodat hij een nog beter beeld krijgt van het stuk. Vervolgens legt de leraar uit wat er moet worden verduidelijkt om huiswerk voor te bereiden. Ten slotte maakt Alex een videotutorial over het stuk of nummer dat voor de volgende les moet worden geleerd. Dit geeft extra ondersteuning bij het thuis oefenen, om twijfel te voorkomen en de motivatie hoog te houden. Vervolgens wordt er dan een rapport gemaakt om bij te houden wat er gedaan is en wat moet nog erop gewerkt worden, om technische vereisten te ontgrendelen en een specifiek repertoire op een constructieve en efficiënte manier te voltooien. Alex doceert in Rotterdam thuis of op de eigen locatie van de leerling. De lessen zijn in het Nederlands, Engels of Frans, voor alle leeftijden en niveaus. De docent geeft voornamelijk live lessen, waarbij hij met zijn leerlingen werkt aan specifiek materiaal (techniek en repertoire). Mocht er om wat voor reden dan ook geen live les kunnen plaatsvinden, dan is het natuurlijk mogelijk om een online les te volgen. De lessen duren 30 minuten of 45 minuten, wekelijks of tweewekelijks.

De les is helemaal toegespitst op jou! Wat trekt je aan in muziek en welke stijlen vind je zelf fijn om naar te luisteren? We gaan samen onderzoeken waar je passie ligt en van daaruit werken we verder aan je pianospel / zang. Ik werk in verschillende stijlen muziek (klassiek en pop) en combineer vaak de manier om iets in te studeren via het notenschrift of op het gehoor. Het kan zijn dat ik een bepaald boek aanraadt om ook te gebruiken of ik stuur je gedeeltes toe om zelf mee aan de slag te gaan buiten onze lessen om. Als je met muziektheorie meer wilt weten en daaraan wilt werken ben je ook aan het goede adres. Ik pas deze theorie al toe tijdens de pianoles en zangles maar je kan het ook apart volgen als les. Ik heb docent muziek aan het conservatorium gestudeerd en heb een afgeronde studie aan de Pabo. Zodoende pas ik mijn pedagogische kwaliteiten toe bij het geven van de lessen.
